Some bad people who call themselves Anonymous Arabic have made a harmful program called Silver RAT that can sneak past security software and secretly run other programs on your computer. “The makers of Silver RAT are very active and smart on different online forums and social media platforms,” a company that protects computers from cyberattacks said in a report last week. The company thinks that the makers of Silver RAT are from Syria and they also made another harmful program called S500 RAT.
They also have a Telegram channel where they offer different services like giving away cracked harmful programs, stolen data, fake credit cards, and Facebook and X (former Twitter) bots. The social media bots are used by other bad people to advertise their illegal services by automatically liking and commenting on user posts. Silver RAT v1.0 was first seen in November 2023, but the makers of Silver RAT said they were going to release it a year before.
It was cracked and shared on Telegram around October 2023. The harmful program is made with a programming language called C# and it can do many things like connect to a server controlled by the bad people, record what you type, delete your backup files, and even lock your data and ask for money to unlock it. They are also working on a version for Android phones.
Silver RAT to Cybercriminals “When making a harmful file using Silver RAT’s builder, bad people can choose different options with a file size up to a maximum of 50kb,” the company said. “Once connected, the bad people can see the victim’s computer on their Silver RAT panel, which shows the information from the victim based on the options chosen.”
A clever trick that Silver RAT has is that it can wait for a specific time before running the harmful file and also secretly run other programs and take over the victim’s computer.
